senna vs prost book

Sorry, your blog cannot share posts by email. Thank you for the excellent review Keith :-)Funny thing is (responding to Ayrton’s comments here) as a Prost fan, I feel the same way about Senna now. Senna was also criticised for his statement about dangers in motor racing ("Either you have to face it in a professional way or just drop it."). The blurb promised a good coverage of the battle between the late Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost, so I was eager to sit down and read this one.

Senna was an egotistical fiend, so self-obsessed that he was incapable of venerating other great drivers. It wasn’t said as a criticism of Senna,as I recall but that he wouldn’t have risked as much in a car with some of the difficulties the Williams had early that season.Oddly enough I’ve never looked for a Prost biography but, I do have a book he co wrote about the techniques of driving. The focus is largely on the McLaren years but also covers the pre-F1 and pre- McLaren years, as well as 1994. The blurb promised a good coverage of the battle between the late Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost, so I was eager to sit down and read this one. Similarly, Prost vs Senna is a debate that’s ultimately a gift to Formula 1. PS don’t expect any photo’s in this book as there are zero.PS don’t expect any photo’s in this book as there are zero.Good point – forgot about that. What is also never deeply acknowledged is the fact that Prost did not get on with ANY of him team-mates and ended up leaving each team in acrimony (including being cermoniously sacked by Ferrari before the end of a season) blaming team-mates, team personnel and other incidents for every failing (which were often his own). This is a pity for all concerned, as it has denied us greater insight into a man who unquestionably was one of the greatest ever to compete in the sport.Folley seizes on the differences between Prost and Senna’s experiences of death in racing and uses it to explain their contrasting approaches.Prost was on the scene of Gilles Villeneuve’s fatal accident at Zolder in 1982. I think he may have made a reference to rallying which he indicated he would probably not warm up to, or his style didn’t suit or something like that.

The 'new' material is a recent, and fairly underwhelming, interview with Prost which does not add any great insight into the relationship he had with Senna. And he commits the worst sin in journalism: he writes with a personal agenda, under extreme prejudice. He'll say anything if it ultimately flatters his darling love. The documentary record paints a far different Prost than the idol Folley puts forth here. This rivalry is documented in a book by Malcolm Foley in which he captures the rivalry through research and personal stories and recollections by many of the personnel involved with the two drivers as well at Prost himself, the surviving driver of the two rivals as Senna was killed while on the course in the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix.

With both drivers considered some of the best to compete in the sport, Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost were at the forefront of fearless driving, with both having a relentless determination to win. He doesn't say. The author claims that Senna ruthlessly divorced his wife when she became an inconvenience for him. In school they would say "missed the point!

Nelson was much better driver or, as Nelson said: “I won 3 times, Mansell lost 2” – Remember 86 and 87Just check out the races from 86/87 – Mansell had Piquet for breakfast – remember Silverstone?Mansell effectively ended Piquet’s career – ironic when you think that in F3 – Mansell, according to Piquet – was one of the ****** at the back of the grid! I used to detest the guy but he would have to come in as my number 2 now. Post was not sent - check your email addresses! Review. As extensively as the dominant McLaren/Senna Vs. Prost era of 1988-1990, the period of Senna as an underdog (and genius) in declining equipment (91-93) is equally covered. Example? Alain Prost hasst die Dokumentation über Ayrton Senna laut eigener Aussage bis heute - Er ist der Ansicht, dass die Geschichte dort verzerrt wiedergegeben wird No! Book Review: Senna vs Prost (Malcom Folley) I’d seen it on bookshelves for a while, but I finally forced myself to pick up a copy of Senna Verses Prost. Ayrton Senna was also a great man and it's to the authors detriment that he cannot convey this. basks in British motorsport history.

It was full of comments from people thatThe book was written in 2009 – some 15 years after the death of Ayrton Senna. The author makes assumptions about what Senna's motives were or what his 'true' personal ethics were without consulting people who could speak for Senna. The photos are beautiful and the anecdotes amusing and touching. This is part 2, on the Villeneuve vs Prost rivalry that never happened. So why am I not thrilled?Folley has not freshened the story at all. Huh? !I have to agree 100% with Gareth here, that is simply unforgivable. It should have simply been the 2 McLarens from 88/89… that represents the Senna/Prost rivalry like nothing else IMO.Totally agree Gareth, I was a little bemused by that too. Very poorly done, indeed.Don't read this expecting some balanced account of the most famous motorsport feud of all time. Written after discussions with Alain Prost, “Senna versus Prost” tells the story of their infamous rivalry which dominated F1 from the moment they became team mates in 1988, until Prost’s retirement in 1993.Read the review below plus enter an exclusive F1 Fanatic competition to win one of six copies. This may be an interesting read for someone new to the topic but for those who have read other books on Senna and Prost this adds nothing new. However so far the most interesting part are the words of Prost as his life story is less talked.Folley’s style is very thorough, he does tend start a story off and seem to go somewhere completely different to what the main focus of the book is about, eg he spends a lot of time talking about Ratzenburger, but for readers that do not know too much about these characters this must really add to the book as all these characters are all someway inerwoven and exellently portrayed. While I have not got to the real meaty parts of the book, I have enjoyed it, however I have found like keith the urge to just cut to the chase.I would recommend this book to anyone who has not read the many books on Senna, or who would like to have more detail about some of the characters in F1 from the early 1980’s.The credits in the sleave say the photo on the front cover is from the british grand prix 1991 and it is Mansell V’s Prost.
