I think many people are having issues due to ordering from fraudulent third-parties through the site, so I recommend checking each individual seller's reviews before purchasing. I was sent some random camo bible, then I saw the book I paid for up for sale again for $200. Of the three largest databases, AbeBooks is the only site where all of the results are returned at one time. Scam bookseller! Check seller. I actually had a pretty good experience with Abebooks. Received a completely different, small and essentially valueless paperback which even had a 95p sticker on the cover from wherever.
Purchased book through Abebooks sold as 'new', but received filthy battered copy. You can sell your books on a lot of sites, like eBay and Abebooks. Lots of emails, no refund. Great resource for ordering books from around the world. I appreciate that it's not so easy for someone who doesn't use Abebooks very often; but for myself, I can only say that Abebooks offer a fantastic service, I’m happy to use them, and on that basis I’d certainly award them 5 stars. I buy a LOT of books and won't purchasing through Abe again. Despite my emails and talk of a replacement still nothing ever came. Well, textbooks I had ordered elsewhere came, but I never received my order from Abebooks. This company steals your money and never fulfills your order.I've not had the bad experiences of the previous reviewers. The refund policy says you can’t get a refund if you change your mind.... not even if it’s not even shipped out yet??

Terrible customer service and books never arrived. It's either a scam or a Mickey mouse operation or a touch of both. Address labels are routinely bungled, resulting in packages being mis-delivered or returned to sender. The same is true of punctuation in searches: the top 5 tips warn you that apostrophes do affect the search results; the search tips tell you that punctuation does not count.– Shipping rates shown for the country of the bookseller only.
This is fraud! I use Abe books a lot and have never had a problem with delivery. Google reviews on them. I initiated contact to remedy the situation, they did get back to me timely but I missed the email, and by the time it rolled back around on my to do list, I was outside of the 30 day window and they wouldn't even consider exchanging my book for what I ordered and paid for (not even asking for a refund). When I recieved my order it was wrong. This company steals your money and never fulfills your order. I have yet to receive this book. In German.
Will buy again! Despite what their return policy says, they won't honor it. Then go to cancel the order after they missed the expected date, and now have to wait 8 more days.

I ordered a rare enough book at a decent price from the Netherlands from a place called Antiquariaat Frans Melk and was a bit dubious as I looked at the reviews of AbeBooks on here after ordering. They told me to write not known at this address in the parcel and put it in a postbox and promised a refund once they had received it. I would prefer to sing the praises of any entity that sells books, but a recent experience pretty much tanks AbeBooks for me. Wouldn't recommend this (honestly I haven't even gotten my book yet so we will see if it even shows up). They did however charge my credit card and I am trying to get a refund but that is becoming a major headache for me. While not as easy as it used to be, it is still the most friendly in terms of direct contact, either through the AbeBooks system (which retains a copy, and sends you a copy of your inquiry) or by bypassing the system and emailing them directly. This merchant is straight up a scam. However, they then ask for extra payment for shipping. Highly recommend. I've been dealing with abe.com for a number of years and it has been a good source for out-of-print books. I was supposed to get shipping info when the replacement package shipped. I ordered a book with an estimated delivery of 2 weeks. My first and last interaction with this outfit- let the buyer beware! Do not buy from these crooks!
